Twenty-one students have been arrested in Nigeria for gay sex, according to a local newspaper. The arrests were reportedly made at two unnamed state-owned polytechnics in Asaba, Delta state, where it was claimed male students ‘engage in same-sex activities for financial gain.’ A spokesperson for the state police, Celestina Kalu, confirmed the arrests and said detectives had acted on a tip-off. ‘We had it on good authority that the male students allegedly engaged in anal sex,’ she told Punch newspaper. ‘The suspects, upon interrogation, made useful statements to the police while investigations are ongoing.’ Gay sex is a crime in Nigeria punishable by up to 14 years imprisonment in non-Sharia states, and death by stoning in Sharia states. In May, another 21 young men were arrested in Ibadan for allegedly being in a ‘gay cult.’

How can they deduce that 21 guys allegedly had anal sex? And if so, plenty of male/female couples (especially in recent times) have engaged in anal sex. Will they be sentenced to death as well?
