Exactly one year ago, on October 28, 2008, Lady Gaga's debut album "The Fame" was released in the United States.
It debuted at number seventeen on the Billboard 200 with sales of 24,000, but after the success of "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" climbed to a new peak of #4.
"The Fame" has sold has sold more than
1,530,000 copies in the United States and has been certified
platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America. After a year of charting and without any re-releases, the album is still in the Top 20 of the Billboard 200.
"The Fame" is one of the most successful electronic albums this decade. It currently spends its
46th week on the top of the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart.
In Canada "The Fame" the album has peaked at
number one and has been certified three times platinum by the Canadian Recording Industry Association for shipment of 240,000 copies.
Besides the United States and Canada, the album has also been certified platinum in Australia (3 times), Austria, Denmark, Germany, New Zealand (2 times), Russia and Switzerland.
All four singles from "The Fame" has peaked within the Top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100. "Just Dance" and "Poker Face" have gone #1, making Lady Gaga the first artist to have their first two singles hit the top since Christina Aguilera, back in 1999.
Lady Gaga's first three singles off "The Fame" became the Billboard Mainstream Top 40 number ones. "Paparazzi" is expected to hit #1 by the end of the week. This will make her the only artist in the charts' history to collect four number ones from a debut album.
The re-release of the album, entitled "The Fame Monster" is hits the stores on November 23! It includes the entire breakthrough album The Fame, along with eight new songs.
