Well the rates of STIs, including AIDS, is vastly higher in the gay community and while they do test the blood it's not 100% fool proof. I think that the ban is outrageous but I'm not totally for "let everyone donate" either until a better test could be done

yeah basically this. Rate of STDs is higher in the gay community mainly because man are less likely to use condoms because they don't have to worry about pregnancy and because of the blood vessels in the anus (small tears/cuts can open and it's easier to transmit via vessels).
