Why do some gays use straights instead of bisexuals?
I posted the thread first, but Guernica's OP explains much better than mine like you can see in the post below. But still why? It doesn't even make any sense at all.
So if there's one thing I've noticed being a bisexual it is that gays and lesbians often refuse to date us because they feel uncomfortable with the fact that we like more than one gender. However I have noticed, especially on ATRL, that a lot of gays are completely fine with getting with a person who identifies as "straight" or even purposely chase after "straights" which begs the question: why are gays okay with straights but not bisexuals? When bisexuals openly like and are attracted to the same sex, while these "straights" they are getting with will vehemently deny their same sex attraction to their death? Why wouldn't you give someone who actually admits that they like the same sex a chance and yet will happy get with a person that is in extreme denial? Explain please
I think its a very multifaceted issue involving things like:
1. They're fetishizing a culture -- straight culture -- to which they cannot and will never belong.
2. I think people are drawn to things they can't have -- i.e. the whole "forbidden fruit" thing.
3. Straight culture reinforces conventional ideals of masculinity, and to embrace men who are congruent with those ideas may help the gay men rectify the disparity between what they're expected to like and how they're expected to behave with what they actually like and how they actually behave.
Bisexuals break this mold because they break the conventional idea of what (in this case) men ~should~ desire.
I agree with Flopty. That's basically what I said, anyway.
(Omg not a WP. Ugh, Goaty, I knew you'd be the death of me.)
All of my experiences with bisexuals went about the same. They didn't mind getting my sex but they never wanted a relationship. They saved that for the women.
I have nothing against them and I would totally be with one if they wanted the same, but it's more trouble than it is worth. Like they want the cake(s) and eat it too. Well you know what I mean
Personally, I don't give straight guys the time of day, and I've been with bisexuals (my first, real relationship/the first guy I fell in love with is bisexual). For those who do pursue straight men, I guess it's an ego thing.

You don't straight guys the time of the day because they're attracted to women so they won't be attracted to you either (I'm assuming you are a man?)
