Shailene Woodley

Shailene was one of the 30 plus actresses in talks to play the Hunger Games’ heroine. She may not be this leading lady but she has plenty of films under her belt and lined up. She now stars in Divergent, the science fiction action film directed by Neil Burger based on another popular YA novel series written by Veronica Roth. Divergent is the first installment in the thrilling trilogy which will turn into four films, with the second installment Insurgent due out in the first half of 2015.
Saoirse Ronan

“I read the script, I think the story is very interesting, and I read the book and I really liked it.” Saoirse Ronon told E! online. Perhaps an Irish actress as an American heroine wouldn’t have been a fan favorite. Ronan is one of the youngest actresses to ever receive an Oscar nomination for her role of Briony Tallis in the 2007 film Atonement alongside James McAvoy and Keira Knightley.
Emma Roberts

While on a press tour for her film Scream 4, Emma revealed to MTV that she had been in consideration for the role of Katniss. ”I was definitely interested in it, but it was just one of those things that didn’t end up happening,” she said. Being the niece of Julia Roberts and daughter to Eric Roberts certainly puts acting in her blood. She new acting was her path while hanging out on sets at the age of five.
Chloë Grace Moretz

A Lionsgate source confirmed in 2011 Chloë Grace Moretz had met with studio executives to talk about auditions for the part but it obviously never went further than that. However, she has been working on over six major films since then. She’s been acting for over a decade and her first award nomination came from her role in the thriller The Amityville Horror.
Kaya Scodelario

This British actress was a fan favorite from the start. She took to her Twitter to address the speculations “Ok so i have had a lot of people asking if I have been sent a certain script for a film based on a book. yes i have. i like it,” she wrote, “BUT there’s probably a million other people auditioning for the part and its not up to me. but lets see what happens. thanks to the fans of THG who suggested me.” Her rep did confirm she had gone to an audition for the part.
Hailee Steinfeld

In February 2011, Hailee confirmed to MTV she had spoken with director Gary Ross regarding the role. “It’s definitely something that we’re taking one day at a time and making sure that everything is in place,” the True Grit actress said.
Abigail Breslin

In an interview with MTV, Abigail Breslin expressed how much she liked the books and how interested she was in being cast in the film. “I think it’s an amazing book. I’m a huge fan of the books. It’s amazing, obviously it would be great,” she said. This Oscar-nominated actress did read for the part but that’s as far as it went.
Isabelle Fuhrman

Isabelle is actually in The Hunger Games but she snagged the role of another tribute, Clove from District 2, who tries to kill Katniss during the games. Isabelle had begged Gary Ross to cast her in the lead role and even got an audition. However, she was only 14 and just too young to be a convincing Katniss and was called back to instead audition for the role of Clove.
Elisabeth Olsen

Internet rumors fueled the idea to have this Olsen sister take the task of Katniss on. A newer face to the scene, many fans thought it could be her breakout role. No dice for the Hunger Games but she snagged a decent role in 2014′s Godzilla though alongside Bryan Cranston and Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The younger sister of the Olsen-twins, she is trying to step out of her shadow and into her own spotlight.
