#1 - Cow and chickens are domesticated. Whales are wild animals.
#2 - Whales take a massive amount of time to reproduce. With chickens/cows (or most wild game), you can raise an adult in months or a couple of years maximum. Whales on the other hand reproduce so slowly, and take so long to reach adulthood, that there is no sustainable level of whaling.
#3 - Whales are vastly more intelligent than animals that humans traditionally consume.
