We haven't heard too much big news recently on the Scream 4 front, most likely because writer Kevin Williamson is finishing the script, and the studio is still trying to figure things out before moving forward. However, Bloody-Disgusting has posted a very interesting update today, saying that they've heard that The Weinstein Company is looking to make Scream 4 in 3D. Of course. It sounds like the studio's saving grace is 3D. Additionally, they say "Wes Craven is closer than ever to returning to the director's chair." There was also a rumor earlier this week that he was 100% signed on, but I'm waiting to hear that from TWC first.

I HATE all of these movies going 3D. We don't have any theaters around here that show movies in 3D! It pisses me off!

but don't you still get the movies on theaters? im not sure though.

I don't think they need the 3D gimmick to sell tickets. People will see this **** as long as Neve is in it.

Hell no. I'd rather it to be normal-

Yeah. They still send out the regular 2D version, but when a movie is in 3D, I want to see it in 3D, since I've never been to a 3D theater before. (Unless you want to count those things at Disney World.) I think it would be so fun to go see a movie in 3D.

Why does everything have to be in 3D now?

In 1996, "Scream" came out of nowhere to bring the horror genre back from the dead like Michael Myers sitting up after a coat hanger to the eyeball. Acclaimed as the smartest horror film in years, it yielded a trilogy that would gross hundreds of millions of dollars and clear a path for dozens of self-aware genre flicks ranging from "Zombieland" to "Adaptation."

Now, it's getting ready to come back again for another stab.

"It's going good," said writer Kevin Williamson, giving us an exclusive update on the new trilogy (!) he's writing. "I've gotta finish that baby."

The series made box-office stars out of Neve Campbell, Jamie Kennedy and Skeet Ulrich as they were teamed alongside Drew Barrymore, Patrick Dempsey, Heather Graham and others in twisty, bloody plotlines. But according to Williamson, the new trilogy will only bring back three actors from the original series.

"The fourth one is an ensemble," Williamson said of his "Scream 4" script, which is being concurrently written with a fifth script as well. "It'll take place right now, 10 years later, and it's going to take place in [Sidney Prescott's hometown of] Woodsboro. We'll have our three main characters, and we'll be introducing several more."

The three characters that will be returning are Sidney (Neve Campbell), Gale (Courteney Cox) and Dewey (David Arquette), Williamson confirmed, adding, "We'll also be introducing a little group, a little ensemble of new castmembers. That'll take us through the next three."

Some might say that a new "Scream" movie couldn't be as self-referential as the others, since self-aware entertainment has become so prevalent. But according to Williamson, he's been writing plenty of spoof-heavy stuff into the "Scream 4" script.

Ahhh I can't wait!!! The main characters are back, Kevin is obviously ecstatic about the script. I'm a bit worried though. I think Sidney's going to die in the 4th opening, but I guess it'll be for the best. Anyways, I'm happy I know I'm getting Scream 4, 5, AND 6 after all these years of only waiting for a 4th.

Oh, and I like 3D. I've seen Bloody Valentine and Final Destination 4 in it, but I will be seeing this in 2D. I don't see the point in it being 3D, since the killer stabs.

The thought of Sidney dying leaves a sour taste in my mouth. I could do without Dewey. Neve and Courtney should survive.

I think she'll be killed first, maybe complimentary to the opening of the first Scream, and it will connect to the new group.

I hope this will also reignite the Scary Movie franchise. Horror and slapstick movies are almost always the only movies I ever enjoy watching.
