The Christmas Through The Decades Rate | Winner Posted!
It's almost the most wonderful time of year. While I respect your Thanksgiving celebration, I wanted to make sure the voting period for this was open long enough for the results to be revealed before Christmas. So welcome to this year's Christmas rate. Ace and I have made a list of the biggest Christmas songs of each decade (and some extras were chosen by anything that received 7 votes in this poll. A lot of the list is very subjective (especially from the 2000s on since nothing was really a hit), but we think this is a good representation of each decade. Originals were mostly used, but sometimes more prevalent covers were chosen or (in Pentatonix, Buble, and MJB's cases) were used when an artist was a major holiday presence but didn't have a big original song. Basically the gist of this is, the list is far from perfect. I know I'm missing [Insert song here]. But it should be an enjoyable rate with everything that is here, so I hope you participate.
Sooooooooo.......
Rules:
Rate each song with a score from 1 to 10. 1s should go to songs you never want to listen to again and 10s should go to the songs that you think are the best of the best.
You can use decimals but only to one decimal place (ex: 7.6 is allowed, but 7.67 is not). If you put multiple places I will round them out.
You get one 11 for your absolute favorite song in the rate, one 10.5 for your second favorite, and one 0 for the song you wish never existed.
Troll votes will not be counted.
All votes must be sent in to me via Private Message by 11:59PM EST on December 19th. The countdown will start on December 20th.
The track list for the rate is FINAL. Daily bumps during the voting process will highlight any and all songs you think were unjustly left out along with some of my personal favorite deep cuts.
Feel free to send comments with your scores. Any comments included will be displayed with the results. Also if you have a favorite cover version of a song tell me about it because I plan to highlight some covers during the results as well.
Note: if you are on mobile you won't be able to see the 50s, 70s, 90s, 10s columns so just go to the PM Friendly list or the YouTube playlist.

All the GA Christmas songs need a slot in another Christmas rate sometime to shine. They don't hold up in actual discography or essential rates for the group because of what they are up against.
I mean, this forum being what it is, this is really a contest for second place because nothing stands a chance of touching that damn Mariah song y'all worship as if it's the embodiment of life, the universe, and everything.
But this will still be a fun way to get into the holiday spirit.
The first daily bump is for Achilles and the only completely original song from Michael Buble's Christmas album. Buble is easily the most successful Christmas act of the 2010s. He is more known for his covers, but this is a lovely original song. If he had tried to promote it more he might have been able to get it into rotation for the holidays.
Check back for daily bumps highlighting original songs that were left out (and feel free to request one or post it yourself). And get working on your votes to send in.
Done with your Black Friday shopping? Well how about you spend your afternoon getting in the Christmas spirit by rating some songs.
Today's bump is for one of my personal favorite contemporary Christmas songs by a fave of mine K Michelle. It is a heartbreaking story of a lost love. It lacks the charm of a proper classic, but it makes a good entry to the pantheon of sad Christmas songs.
Today's bump is for Darlene Love's All Alone on Christmas which is a truly stunning song that found its way to the Home Alone 2 soundtrack. Love is in the rate already with her original Christmas (Baby Please Come Home). This song never really became a proper classic, but it is a gorgeous sad Christmas song and is warm and comforting in a weird way.
Fun fact: it is RuPaul's favorite Christmas song and he covered it on his 1997 album Ho Ho Ho.
You now have 3 weeks to submit votes so get cracking.
Today's bump highlights Jessie J's 2015 holiday jingle. A far cry from a classic and it sounds too similar to a lot of existing holiday songs for me to include it in the rate. It still is a cute listen and makes a good case for a Jessie J Christmas album.
BTW, I fought you tooth and nail on Hard Candy Christmas. I finally heard it Sunday morning. I am so sorry. Woo Lorde is it beautiful.
I don't even like country music very much, but it all kinds of flawless. I'm glad you saw the light.
In the spirit of country today's bump will highlight the OG AIWFCIY.
Not a cover of Mariah, but a country christmas song that is notable for getting the most airplay on country radio out of all the country christmas songs.. Someone voted for it in the pre-rate poll, but it didn't get enough votes. I had never heard of it before then and I still have no idea who Vince Vance & the Valiants are tbh, but that sax tho. It has definitely earned a spot on my Christmas playlist.
