This is so stupid.

1) Most student nurses aren't able to get part time jobs because of the requirements of the course, especially once placement begins.
2) There is already a nursing shortage in England and they pay £1.9 billion a year for agency staff. This cut will put off a LOT of applicants. I'm studying nursing right now and I know that I wouldn't have bothered to apply in the first place if I had to take out a loan. Nurses don't get paid well so why would they want to get into a lot of debt when the pay off isn't good at all? This will increase the nursing shortage and so even more will have to be paid out to agency staff.
3) The average age of a nursing applicant is 29. Many of them already have previous degrees meaning that they already are in debt of £27,000 or more. Financially, these post-graduate applicants won't be able to pay off their loans once all is said and done.
4) Nursing students deserve their bursary. We have to work over 700 unpaid working hours every year as part of the requirements. Having to work on the side of this and giving us the financial burden could put patient lives at risk.

Exactly. It's like a running circle and I'mma jump out the NHS v. soon before it gets bad.

Having to pay for tuition fees = less nurses = more agency staff not doing their jobs properly etc etc = more money, time and resources wasted in the NHS in a already budget tightened organisation. The Government are **** ****ers. Staff morale in the NHS (well, at least the hospital I work at) is already at an all-time low.

my friend who is the same age as me (20) does midwifery and has her tuition fees covered by the NHS grant. I see no reason for this to happen, and because of this i'm extremely happy. make them pay like the rest of us

Here for cuts in welfare and rise in pay. That's ultimately what will happen by 2020, no?

Yeah but nurses/midwives don't have as much freedom or flexibility as other students do because of the demands of the course. This means we can't get part time jobs. In addition to studying full time, they have to do 37.5 hours a week in the hospital as part of the placement requirement. In total, student nurses have to work 2300 unpaid hours over three years. Like I already said, the average age of a nursing student is completely different to other courses, which is 29. Many students who study nursing come from previous degrees with mountains of debt behind them, and/or they are parents or have families. This is essentially a salary for them and taking this away is a huge problem.
