1. First of all, she doesn't have a message and if you loathe mainstream media, you don't give them interviews. Give interviews to the part of the media you feel comfortable with and you feel cares about what you do.
2. Don't justify your collabs with: "it's 2015. it's cool."
3. You can, but if you are truly inspired by mostly alternative or rap artists, you don't run around with a 1D (a casting band) vlog and become known in that fanbase for writing fan-fiction songs
4. Lorde at least admitted freely that she was inspired by the sound of BTD. She may not agree with everything LDR, but it never came across as shallow.
Halsey gets flack because she sounds like a parody of the artists that she is influenced of.
And most importantly, has anybody actually watched her interviews?
I am sorry, but if people fail to see all of this, I mean....
Everybody is free to like what they like, so is every Halsey stan. In the end, you just have to expect some backlash for some things.
Sky wasn't who she was until her pop singles One, Obsession flopped
