Most scientists agree that the earth goes through periods of warming and cooling on its own and has for ages. WITHOUT human involvement. Thus our carbon emissions (or lack thereof) merely push the earth in one direction or other.

So if the earth is going to change regardless of human involvement why do we even care about how much CO2 we're dumping into the atmosphere??? A carbon tax isn't going to do squat besides put off the inevitable.

The end goal should be to learn how to control the cycle for our own benefit, because if the earth gets too hot or too cold -- either way it's a problem for our survival.

I'm aware of doomsday-like predictions like this, and I'm not challenging their credibility.

A carbon tax won't reduce emissions enough to stop the climate change. That's my ENTIRE POINT.

The focus should be to use technology to reverse climate change.

Global, catastrophic climate change happens with a human carbon footprint of zero. Even if you managed to completely eliminate ALL forms of CO2 emissions by humans into the atmosphere it wouldn't stop the earth's own progression of climate activity that would threaten human life on a global scale.

But anyway, artificial super intelligence will probably happen in my lifetime, and if it doesn't extinct our species it'll be able to solve all these silly little climate problems.
