What caused nintendo decline in quality? How will it affect the company now that they lack both quantity(both sales and game wise) and quality? Will the NX save them?

Hmmm. Interesting how 2010, the year that Super Mario Galaxy 2 was released, has the highest average for Nintendo.
Anyway, this year has been sort of lackluster in terms of output (other than splatoon). It'll likely pick up next year when Zelda Wii U & co are released.
It's because they're lazy lately. We got Mario Tennis, a crappy Mario Party with the new style they're still trying to push, and no new original games. They've gotten into a habit of making boring game after boring game with half-assed effort instead of giving the fans what they want (Paper Mario in the style of the first 2 or bust ).
Good. I haven't been excited about a Nintendo game in forever. They need to stop doing what they've always done. You can't just put a fresh coat of paint on the walls and claim you have a new house
Nintendo games have been a rehash of their older games for the past 20 years. The reason people liked them was because they were updated with such huge power/graphic leaps throughout the console eras but we have reached a point where what can be seen is not as obvious to the eye that we are left with what is fun, and what is fun is not the same game and characters over and over again.
Nintendo is childish and a lot of the original customers have grown up. I used to be a huge Nintendo fanboy as a teen but now I would consider a different console if I were to buy a new one. It's hard to swallow, but more people want hardcore gaming these days.
It's because they have no idea with what to do next. That's why they're releasing all these cheap titles like the two Animal Crossing games that came out recently, the Zelda thing and Pokken. Their sales have come to a complete stand still because everyone has become bored of Nintendo. They also don't listen to what their fans actually want.
Look at Microsoft. In addition to all the great titles they've released in the last year, they also made Rare Replay for dirt cheap which fans adored. Nintendo on the other hand would release each individual title for full price and sell Amiibo's of them too just to rip their fans off even more.
