As I played it about a year ago, I revisited the game again just a few days ago. Along with the DLC, "The Whistleblower," and I thought to myself, why is this underrated? I was scared sh!tless, as the creepy noises reached out to me in the pitch darkness.
If you don't know the background, it takes place in a mental asylum hospital with supernatural forces at work, which I won't spoil it. You go into it after getting a distress call with a camcorder to record everything, including a night vision since 80% of the game takes place in the dark. It's very similar to that PC game, Amnesia. If you have seen Grave Encounters, it's very similar to that as well. It uses the cliche found footage method, but it really works for a game, vs. a movie, because you are controlling the character.
Anyways, the game really focuses on hiding, running and collecting documents/batteries. The downfall of the game is the battery usage. The camcorder drains your battery (for night vision) within 5 minutes of game play, if even that. You also spend time running for your life, which creates a suspense feel.
On other news, Outlast 2 is confirmed and being released next year. So please check it out and hope it lives up to it's predecessor.
It's definitely the best one I've played so far! so hyped for the sequel
I also forgot to mention for the gay queens on here. There is MALE NUDITY in this game. Beware. Although the background creators of the game must not be in America, because their penises are uncircumcised (which looks funny in game version).
It's also very graphic. Lots of blood and swearing too.
yes i bought last month?
and i got stuck at the place where i have to turn the power back up again i guess
its in the first chapter maybe?
my battery died and i had no light to see
its been a long time since last time i played it
i'm too scared.

Yes, it's scary as hell. I was scared within the first 5 minutes of game play already and didn't want to progress any further.
I would start over. Conserve your battery. Click it on and off a lot until you see a window or a light that's on. Then to get the power back on you head to the basement from the main corridor. Their is a guy in the basement you must hide/run from. It takes practice. I remember my first time I died so many times. Second time I just knew what to do. Also, another tip, watch for their patterns. They always walk/scope out the same path. When you see him leave your area, that's cue to move forward, even if it means sneaking behind him without him knowing!
I thought Dead Space was the scariest game of all time, it still is. But Outlast tops the cake. Only because it feels realistic knowing you are in control behind the camera. To an extent, I do slightly agree because a). the battery consumption is a downfall and b). the game focuses too much on running/hiding from bad guys. Every 5 minutes and you walk into a new area, there is another sequence of running for your own life.
Although I forgot about Alien. The one on PS4. That was scary as hell too! Like Outlast, the game focuses too much on hiding in lockers/behind things. The Alien would pop out every few so minutes and it got repetitious after a while.

It took me two days to pass it through but I went all over the place to find batteries and I did, it was hard but there are harder tests as you keep going.
