Louisiana, for example, had anyone of "Negro" descent defined as having black ancestry of 1/32(or 3% Black

) as being black under law. Other states had laws ranging from 1/8 and 1/16 as well. So an ancestry marker that obviously was not even visible by that point of admixture dictated people's LIVES.
