From my experience;

Girls tend to be homophobic only if they're raised in a strict religious environment.
Guys tend to be homophobic regardless cause of what they're taught a man should act like, and it goes beyond that. Guys are more accepting of gays if those gays are 'masc' and they will pick on (call them gay slurs) straight guys who are a bit effeminate or scrawny regardless of what sex they're attracted to.

Girls are extremely homohobic of our lesbian sisters, but accept us gay men so we can take them sh0pping!!!1 and be their GBF which in itself is ignorant and annoying. Guys are more homophobic towards gay men as they feel uncomfortable. Men seem to act out on their homophobia in more violent/verbal or direct ways (though I know cases of girls beat up lesbians).

The most accepting person I know is a straight male. He does not tolerate it, he accepts and embraces it. While I do have plenty of female friends who are accepting of me being gay, they are not accepting of the LGBT community. A lot of them don't believe in bisexuality or trans identity. In addition it would be another story if their son turned out to be gay.
