French newspaper drags 25
I laughed my head off at this so I translated it (except the part about shops opening earlier and that stuff).
Quote:
Adele: 25, an old woman's record
CRITICISM - We have listened to the new album by the English singer. Result: boring and predictable, filled with weak compositions.
As an introduction to the album, Hello, a feeble song with a grotesque video, unfortunately gives the tone of these new songs. Now one of the most popular singers in the world, Adele could have taken greater risks when entering the studio.
An overproduced and rather bland and soporific music
Of all the options available to her, she seems to have made the worst possible choice: that of an "adult" music not to say antiquated, overproduced, bland and quite soporific. While she remains a great interpreter, it is regrettable that she lends her voice to such weak compositions, and especially as predictable as those that adorn 25.
When We Were Young, written by the highly overrated Jesso Tobias Jr., takes the cake when it comes to blackmail dripping with fake emotion, with its production making Celine Dion look like a country-blues singer. Excessive batteries, huge choruses, XXL sound, Adele does not give in finesse. Only at the end of the album, on stipped songs, does the singer briefly find what made the charm of her debut album, 19. Contrary to what announces the title of the new disc, 25, Adele is now aged 27.
Listening to her music, you'd swear you read the title backwards: she sounds like a 52 year old woman out of ideas, which now only sings to rub her old fans the right way, without troubling them too much.
