Netflix' A Series Of Unfortunate Events is set to begin filming in Spring 2016, according to Daniel Handler, Lemony Snicket's 'representative'

It's great that it's going Netflix! This series doesn't work as a movie in my opinion. A thirteen episode series is great.

I think that's just part of the marketing. Bad things happening is (obviously) a pin point of the series, and denial is obviously playing a strong part in the marketing route Netflix is going for (I strongly believe that trailer is real and Netflix released it themselves, exactly when they wanted to.)

No word on cast yet, but I assume they'll do that when they finish writing it. Probably to avoid casting characters that will ultimately be cut from the series.

The aesthetics from the first film were on point, I really hope they go that route again. I wish there's actors were still the same age so they could use them, Jim Carrey was perfect as Count Olaf
