News: Air France flight diverted

Why is ISIS specifically focused on France?? I've noticed that they are especially fixated on France. Is it like the first Western nation they want to "claim/conquer" or something?

EDIT: and I know most of the passengers are prob american since it's a flight from LA to France but the plane itself is Air France so its a symbolic attack on France again.

France has specifically named the Islamist ideology as the problem.
France is standing up for its values and seeking to integrate Muslims.
Paris represents the Enlightenment values (Siècle des Lumières) of Western civilization.
The Islamic State is obsessed with history and honour.
