In the UK they have asked if I'm from Ethiopia (go figure), Egyptian (can they at least be consistent), etc. In Spain they've guessed everything, from Dominican to Roma. At home, in NYC I'm often taken for Dominican or light-skinned black. In Miami I was Cuban. In Texas I was Mexican, etc. They can never guess it right. I have to admit that in Europe I am more often exoticized than discriminated against.
It goes to show you that hating on other human beings, and (even worse) attacking them because one thinks that they are part of "the Other" or the enemy is just irrational. The events in the OP of this thread (and others that have been posted in the last 48 hours) show that we are heading toward an (even more) extremely intolerant future.
