Bieber and One Direction both released new albums last week, Purpose and Made in the A.M., respectively, and Bieber really, really wants his album—which some are hailing as the arrival of a new, redeemed, mature musician—to outsell the British guys. So he can escape his spotty past, so he can finally prove himself as a true artist. Topping a huge boy band would be a good way to prove his new mettle.
