She needs hits, preferably an Ariana Grande ME-sized era with 3-4 top 10 hits and maybe one #1 if that's not too much to ask. She's got success with #1 albums and as an album seller overall, but she just needs a few more hits.

She has done an amazing performance, totally memorable in Paparazzi at the VMAs, and I definitely believe she can outdo herself with a VMA performance, Applause was only bleh because she didn't get to exact her original plan.

I feel like much of the negativity surrounding Gaga's brand has subsided now. I think she is 1 hit song away from being a contender again. I don't think she will ever be at the height that she once was though. I just think she needs to chill out with the costumes and gimmicks. She can still have that artsy edge to her but not to be over the top and alienate everyone with it like she did.

She can. However, their situations are different. Justin's problem was that he was surrounded by so much negative publicity that it shattered his public image, which he then counterbalanced with a ton of (incredibly artificial) positive press. Gaga's problem is that she's mostly lost the public's interest and most of her mystique is gone. The latter seems a lot harder to recover from.

Also, it feels like the overt theatrics and histrionics Gaga specializes in have mostly fallen out of favor in recent years. Aside from Miley, most of our current reigning pop stars are fairly conservative.
