A new video-based campaign is working to address stigma within the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community when it comes to PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), a drug also known as Truvada that when taken daily has been proven effective in helping to preventing HIV transmission.

The "Time2PrEP" campaign from Public Health Solutions is a series of video shorts that talks to different individuals across the queer spectrum about their experiences with PrEP and why they utilize the groundbreaking medication. There are other STDs you will get without use of condoms. Using Prep might prevent HIV but not other nasty STDs

Because that's how it's SUPPOSE to be used.

But, people wanna just **** and as long as they don't get HIV, other STDs apparently don't matter.

Other STDs can be nastier than HIV

PreP has its use in long term relationships

My only issue with PreP is that it has birthed a new class of ignorant gays who think they can go barebacking all over the place now, forgettig that PrEp is meant to compliment condom use, not replace it. I wonder if it's possible that we'll see HIV infection rates fall, but rates for other STDS rise.

Most people don't realize other STDs they will get from not using condoms or they are just ignorant because for them, other STDs can be "curable" compared to HIV, when in fact some of them are nastier and can be worse in some cases.

The first video is SO cringe worthy.

Prep = protect against HIV
Condom = protect from all STDs

Its not pointless.

prEp is honestly supposed to be used alongside condoms to prevent HIV and STD infection. Its like plan b, its just more protection. just like the pill is technically supposed to still be used with a condom as well.

the point of prEp is to prevent hiv infection though. and tbh thats the worst possible risk of having sex, yes gonorrhea and chlamydia and syphilis are all bad BUT they're curable. hiv is something you have to live with for the rest of your life. its not saying, other std's do not matter, its just targeting the one that obviously takes the most toll on your life.

and for anyone that argues hiv is no longer a death sentence that may be correct, but having to take a myriad of pills for the rest of your life and dealing with side effects of said pills and your illness can prove to not exactly be the best quality of life either.

I agree. If you have to use this and condoms, why not just only use condoms and skip the potential side effects?
