The Middle-East has practically been a war-zone for years. There are HUNDREDS of humanitarian, political and social groups all around the world focusing on the Middle-East crisis, so drop the "nobody cares" argument already. While it should not be the reality of any country, violence has became a synonym with the Middle-East. However, what happened in Paris this year was not normal. Terrorist attacks on this magnitude are not frequent in Europe. People are not surprised when something as tragic happens in Beirut or Baghdad because these countries are in and out of wars all of the time.
Besides, Paris is one of the most Iconic cities of the world. People tend to be more affectionate and supportive towards what they know or have feelings for. It's really hard to pretend you care about something you know so little about. You also cannot blame people for knowing so little, people are surrounded with their personal and their own countries problem to have the time or effort to fathom the Middle-East crisis. It's very complicated and long. However, what happened in Paris was simple to comprehend.
