Television sources say Dermot’s name is in the frame to take over as presenter on the talent contest when it joins the ITV schedules from 2017 - despite leaving their other singing show The X Factor last year.
“When The Voice joins ITV it’s going to have a new feel - they want to put their own stamp on it, and that looks likely to include a new presenter. “Dermot is hugely popular with viewers and knows exactly what he’s doing - there’s no better choice for a host and he will be first in line.”
But talk of bringing Dermot, 42, on board could grate with X Factor boss Simon Cowell, after the presenter left the rival show last year following eight years as host.
An official for ITV stressed at the time that the network would like him to host shows for them in the future, adding: “Dermot’s been a fantastic host of The X Factor for the past eight series and we’re sorry to see him go.
“We wish him all the very best for the future and hope that he’ll be back on ITV screens soon.”
