I guess the same reason why Madonna's "Hung Up" flopped in the US while it was HUGE in Europe. Hung Up was Eurodancepop while WBT was R&B

TEOM shifted around 1m copies across Asia. Still a huge let down from the 6 million selling #1's and the 5,5m+ shifting Music Box, Daydream and Merry Christmas.

Mariah is the only non-asian recording artist to have an album sell 6m across the continent.

I just wanted to point that out in order to exemplify her status in Asia over her status in Europe where Mariah only has the 8m selling Music Box (and the 3,8m selling Daydream and the 3 million selling #1's). Merry Christmas is going to hit 2m across Europe in like 2-3 seasons. (Christmas is an album which has sold almost 3 million copies in Japan lol).

It was largely just huge in radio anyway.

It only spent 10 weeks in the sales t10, never peaking on the top there.

I mean, if you look at female songs this year, Fight Song spent longer in the sales t10 than it did. Its overall sales run was weaker than, say, Only Girl.

WBT wasn't as huge as her album which shows what the purpose of the single was, to expose the album. The album sold 6,1m copies according to soundscan, more than any of the current generation is able to sell, except for Adele and Taylor.

why r people so nasty? AIWFCIY never reached #1 anywhere and yet is one of the biggest classics of all times.

Europe especially never accepted her genre change. Asia was more forgiving. And Brazil... is currently her strongest market, all of her previous idk 5 releases reached GOLD there on initial shipment. Memoirs should be platinum.

I was so surprised when I first found out that was the song of the decade by Billboard. I have never even heard it until ATRL and still haven't heard it anywhere in public.
