You can make any song's lyrics seem bad when you just post a small section of them.

How is the whole chorus (which repeats several times through out the song) a small section? New Americana's chorus is cringe worthy, but that's not the whole song

The difference is that the "Gimmie More" chorus was designed to be repetitive, playing into the whole idea of blacking out. There are also clever references buried within "Gimme More's" lyrics that allude to Britney's relationship with the paparazzi at that time.

The "New Americana" chorus, on the other hand, is a failed attempt at capturing the attitude of the current generation, and instead merely plays off of tired stereotypes. How many people Halsey's age actually grew up listening to "Biggie and Nirvana" and smoking "legal marijuana?" "Legal marijuana" only became a thing in 2012. The "Gimme More" lyrics may not be a poetic masterpiece, but at least they aren't trying to be something they're not.
