The third single from My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy is notable for featuring no samples, which is like a Britney song without autotune. All five artists have writing credits on this posse cut and the song includes disturbing, horror movie influenced concepts in it's lyrics. The video was also v controversial, notably being banned from MTV.
Nothing below an 8 though, who else is doing it?
Best bit: Nicki's verse duh Best lyrics: "So let me get this straight, wait, I'm the rookie? / But my features and my shows ten times your pay? / 50K for a verse, no album out"
Kanye's punched out now. It's Joanna v. Arcade Fire now. Hew will win?
This is what happened the last time MBDTF songs were in a rate:
Quote:
5. Kanye West - "POWER"
4. Kanye West / Rihanna / Kid Cudi / Fergie - "All Of The Lights"
3. Kanye West / Jay Z / Rick Ross / Bon Iver / Nicki Minaj - "Monster"
2. Kanye West / Pusha T - "Runaway"
1. Solange - "Losing You"
Let's see what happens this time
Well, Sprawl II is definitely the best non-HOOM song in the rate and it would be a great winner but Arcade Fire have a chance of winning another rate and I don't really see it for Joanna
I think it's a real testament to this song's quality that y'all always knew it would win, yet none of you sabotaged it. Truly the greatest song of all time and the only deserving winner.
"Sprawl II" was released as the sixth and final single from The Suburbs over a year after the album's release (saving the best for last?) The song was a favourite long before it's release though, appearing on a myriad of year-end lists including #9 on Pitchfork's. While most of the album was written about Win's hometown of Houston, "Sprawl II" is about Régine's hometown of Montreal and she takes lead vocals on this song.
Best bit: When that synth comes in for the second verse Best lyrics:
"They heard me singing and they told me to stop
Quit these pretentious things and just punch the clock
These days, my life, I feel it has no purpose
But late at night the feelings swim to the surface
Cause on the surface the city lights shine
They're calling at me, "come and find your kind."
Our runner up is the penultimate song on Have One on Me. And who would've ever predicted it would get this far? The nine minute song was the third to be previewed from the album, not long before it's release. With it's labyrinthine arrangement and arguably the finest lyrics of the album, "Kingfisher" is definitely a song worthy of naming yourself after!
Best bit: The last minute Best lyrics:All of them tbh!
