In recent years, we've seen some retailers who do everything they can to avoid using the word "Christmas." Retailers will often go as far as calling Christmas trees and Christmas lights, "Holiday trees" or "Holiday lights" to avoid offending the weak and sensitive. So does the spirit of Christmas and use of the word offend you?

P.S: Using Holiday instead of Christmas is because they can and should make it a celebration available for everyone, different religions or lack of should all be able to enjoy it. Having Holiday plastered all over my house is fine, CHRIST not so much.

I agree with everything you said, sis. Hanukkah is a few weeks before Christmas so it's Jewish-friendly especially to use 'holiday'
I think our culture and our world has just gotten too sensitive and honestly kind of psycho when it comes to religion. It's been called Christmas since the beginning of time and I don't know why everyone has decided to become a social justice warrior in 2015, adults included. I hope this is just a bad era for the world that will pass because people are getting way too worked up over little things.

Aren't Western expatriates a significant proportion of the population of the Emirates, though?
That would explain why they celebrate it there. Also capitalism (which explains why Japan celebrates it)

They don't change the names other religious celebrations (Eid, Hanukkah & etc) so why change Christmas when it's been a tradition for a long time?

Just Dubai (AD is catching up) but the celebration goes on as extreme as it is in the west, which I personally don't think should happen but that's another story.
But also in this case it's a pretty holiday so I don't blame us for marketing on it.
