Am I the only one that doesn't really enjoy this album? To me, the only two great songs in this album are Scream and Venus Fly.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fine pop/alt album, but I know that Grimes can do so much more than she lets herself. All her songs have great potential to create unusual chord progressions and lyrics, but she keeps stalling by having her melodies become the main focus and not the rest of the musicality. In other words, even though it's clear she's trying to explore new sounds, she's not actually moving forward because she's still focusing on the melodies. The songs are essentially the same as her old ones, just with new instrumentals.
This album just simply doesn't push many boundaries. It continues the greatness of Grimes producing and editing her own music all by herself, which is amazing, but it's nothing new for Grimes. The chord progressions and rhythms of the songs for the most part fall back into the usual Grimes formula as well (3 to 5 chords, all of them pretty simple chords, lots of layered vocals with a pretty melody), which makes them lackluster.
Scream was great because she abandoned the melody all together, and the song became all rhythm. That was really ****ing cool; I just wish the rest of the album was like that.
MTE. Not history at all since she's not mainstream but she's unique, on another level.
being mainstream or not has absolutely nothing to do with whether or not something is history making
shes not even that non-mainstream anyway. shes not a household name but shes quite popular. shes one of those alt artists that gained a massive following thanks to this age of social media that we live in now thus in terms of being "underground" or whatever atrl would call it shes basically at the surface. shes not underground at all.

the kids on here need to stop hanging on every word metacritics say and learn to form their own opinions. A true sign of insecurity and the need for validation and approval via their music taste.
Hopefully youll grow out of it and just simply like what you like.

Ya but most people on here including me were already stanning for the album before the initial metascore came out. So like.
Pretty much every reaction in the album thread is overwhelmingly positive. Between fan reaction and critic reaction there's really no denying that Art Angels is a masterpiece.
