BREAKING: Lionsgate TV has extended Wendy Williams’ contract by seven years to 2022 but her show itself has not yet been renewed as of yet. The Lionsgate-owned Debmar-Mercury’s syndicated The Wendy Williams Show, which continues to pull in strong ratings, so far is scheduled to run through the 2016-17 television season. However, with a “personal services” contract just entered into between Lionsgate and Williams, it’s a good bet that the one-hour talk show will also continue also for another seven years. The syndicated talk show is taped live in New York.
Given the news this morningfrom Lionsgate that Discovery and Liberty Global are investing in the studio (each company will own about 3.4%), the signing of Williams also makes sense as she in business with both Lionsgate and Discovery. The daytime diva is also doing a show with Investigation Discovery — a network owned by Discovery Communications. Death by Gossip With Wendy Williams, which she executive produces and hosts, bowed in September on the network.
The news came during Lionsgate call this morning with analysts.
