This is really not good, and I've liked every one of their albums so far. I don't get it. It honestly seems like they threw this whole album together in two weeks in a quick attempt to get something out before Christmas. Nothing is bad, per se, but nothing is good either. The production is basic, the lyrics are basic, the vocals are basic... Every song sounds like a rehash of something that has come out within the last two years. Quit is great, but that's because it sounds just like Crazy For You (from Wild Life). Most of the songs sound like they could be Maroon 5 (or even Wild Life) rejects. Sad.
Especially considering Marianas Trench just put out an AMAZING album with great writing, interesting production, and better vocals.
IDK I listened yesterday and thought it was better than most of their previous albums.
Standouts: Quit, Lose Control, The Knife.
I love Hello although it kind of has a generic sound to it, so I was expecting the album to be more generic. Turns out that it was just the 3 singles/promo singles (Hello, Can't Slow Down, Lost In Translation) that are most generic to me.
Like I said, none of the songs are bad. But Lost In Translation, Alive, Very First Time, I Will, Man Killer and Lose Control are very generic and could have been done by anybody. Can't Slow Down, Hello, Quit, and The Knife are the only good songs in my opinion, but they all sound like Wild Life leftovers.
MT's album is called Astoria, it's amazing and sounds nothing like Pop101 (which I know basically everyone hated lol). It's another artsy concept album with lots of annoying interludes, but the songs themselves are stellar. Listen to Burning Up and This Means War and you'll see what I mean. It's very pop, but HQ pop like 1989.
