After staying in different dorms for 2 years, I am so glad that I finally have an apartment. The dorm experience is nice for making friends but that's about it.

Dorming means moving and staying in residencies that the college or university offers to their students, commuting is going back and forth from your school to your home, aka not staying on the school's campus

Living in halls is the best time ever, it really is part of the university experience

Dorms/Residence Halls are usually on-campus housing provided by the university.
Commuting is having some place typically off-campus like an apartment or condo and having to drive to campus everyday.

If I wasn't two hours from home, I swear I would have ended up commuting everyday until I got my own place my first two years. My roommate(s) was a mess.

Every student should experience dorm life for at least a year, its a great learning experience plus it can be very fun if you live with good people

Dorms are TRASH. **** the "it's a good life experience" ******** people say, I haven't learned anything besides that I hate people more than I originally thought. People screaming/making noise in the hall all the time, blasting music excessively loud, the guys treat the bathroom like a damn litter box (if you think straight guys are attractive, communal bathrooms will change your perspective real quick), the room is small as **** and feels like a jail cell, dorm food sucks and gets old super fast.
If you have the choice to commute, DO IT. You'll make more friends in classes and clubs than in the dorms. I can not wait to be done with this ****, sleep in a normal size bed, have a bathroom to myself, etc. My roommate is transferring to a different dorm at the end of the semester and god knows I'll pay the fee to keep the room as a single.

Live in a dorm your freshmen year FOR SURE. My roommates sucked ass and pissed on me, literally, but it was totally worth it. You meet so many new people, and you're basically guaranteed friends. You're so close to all the events and activities, and don't have to worry about commute time and leaving extra time to go places.
But I moved off-campus this year, for my sophomore year and I love it. I'm glad my complex has a shuttle to campus, because I don't drive, but it's totally worth the 10-minute ride, to have your own room and space.

Don't dorm if you live close by (knew some people who did this ), but yeah, this is what I'd recommend too.

If you can afford it, stay in a dorm your first two years, then live off campus for at least senior year.
