What I've learned and tell my teen is that it's not that me and my SO (we're a blended family) don't get it, we just want what we think is best for you and don't want to see you get hurt. I've accepted that a lot of life is making your own errors though, even if it means supporting a fine arts degree.

It's the kids who don't understand. Parents are just looking out for you. Give it 10+ years and everything will make sense.
