Trixie Maristela from the Philippines was crowned Miss International Queen 2015 on Friday (6 November) night.
The 29-year-old beat 26 other competitors to win the world’s largest transgender beauty pageant, which is held annually at the iconic Tiffany’s Show caberet in Pattaya, Thailand.
Valesca Dominik Ferraz of Brazil and Sopida Siriwattanukoon of Thailand came second and third respectively.
‘I’m very thankful to be given this chance to win Miss International Queen which is a very prestigious pageant for transgenders like us,’ Maristela told Reuters.
Maristela is the second Filipina to win the pagaent since it started in 2002. Last year’s prize, won by Isabella Santiago from Venezuela, was US$12,500 in cash and the option of plastic surgery.
Maristela rose to fame in her native Philippines after winning a televised transgender pageant last year. She also won Miss Gay Manila 2015 in May.
She clinched the Miss International Queen title with the answer to her final question: ‘How do you compare beauty beauty inside and outside? ‘
‘Beauty from the inside starts from the heart. But from outside, beauty is just a physical appearance,’ she said. In the end, what matters is… beauty in the inside will radiate outside because a true queen does not want just a beautiful face or golden crown. But a true queen also possess a golden heart.’
