It depends on how serious your anxiety disorder is, but most cases are helped by facing it head on.
Most people can't do it because of the way they think. They think something bad is going to happen and that's when your fight or flight reaction kicks in. Most people choose to run away from it. You have to change your way of thinking. It's not easy and it takes a lot of work, but it's possible to be able to get it under control on your own.
I was always very shy in elementary school. I had friends and people I talked to but I kept to myself for the most part (I can be a bit introverted at times myself). It wasn't until middle school that I started putting myself out there and forcing myself to be more engaging with others. A lot of that shyness went away and I remember finding myself becoming TOO social eventually.
