In the insatiable quest to define human sexuality*and try to fit its fluidity into neat little boxes, one researcher from the University of Essex has studied what a bunch of women respond to sexually when it comes to looking at men and women, reaching the sweeping conclusion that no*woman*is straight. In fact, all women fit the binary of either “gay” or bisexual, according to the tone deaf study. Dr. Gerulf Reiger from the Department of Psychology conducted the study observing 345 women (including straight or lesbian) and their responses while watching videos of naked men and women. Reiger looked for things such as each individual’s pupil dilation when reacting to the images they were seeing. On the whole the study showed the lesbian women were most aroused by watching women, while showing that heterosexual identifying women were aroused by the videos of both men and women.*
The study’s results showed 82 percent of the women were aroused by both men and women. As for heterosexual identifying women, 74 percent were aroused by videos of men and women. Dr. Rieger concluded, "Even though the majority of women identify as straight, our research clearly demonstrates that when it comes to what turns them on, they are either bisexual or gay, but never straight."
