The singer mailed out physical copies of a brand new record entitled Mr. Misunderstood to members of his fan club, all of whom were surprised by the delivery. The ten-track album was not announced, and until megafans opened their mail, nobody was made aware that anything was coming their way.
The timing around Misunderstood is almost as surprising as the fact that it exists at all. For starters, Church typically releases albums three years apart, and his last full length came out only a year and a half ago. On top of that, we are currently in the fourth quarter of the year, when the biggest albums from the most popular acts are released, as holiday shoppers are prone to snapping up copies, making these few months the most valuable for the music industry. It’s odd that Church would choose to give away his product at a time when the people are the most willing to buy, but that may point to his true intention.
There’s no word yet on whether the general public will have a chance to get their hands on a copy of Mr. Misunderstood anytime soon, and as of yet, Church hasn’t commented on the release anywhere. The album isn’t available anywhere online, which is highly odd for anything in 2015. It might be tough to believe, but there might not be an ulterior motive here. This may actually just be a very expensive and heartfelt way for the musician to thank those that have stood by him and supported him the most, and if so, it’s an extremely generous gesture.
