There were some gorgeous songs on her last two albums, that were age appropriate enough.
It's funny to read the praise of her 2nd album because it's the one I liked the least, when I listened to her discography last month. I think it's mostly an image problem than a musical one (except for some bad singles choices here and there).
Also, she's incredible when it comes to stripped down, minimalistic ballads (
Goodbye Lullaby 
) but it's not what sells for a popstar, and most people don't really see her "brand" like that.
PS/ Her "sell out" album still had a lot of guitars and a punk-ish, bratty sound so it wasn't as drastic of a change as it was described. No one had tapped into that market at the time and it was definitely ahead of the curve. Listen to
