The 3 major groups category conflicts with race as envisioned by US society
When convenient, whites claim all these other groups are white (some Latinos, Middle Easterners, Jewish descent, Indian maybe?) and when it's not convenient they exclude them. It's a false privilege

Caucasian despite what the census says has no meaning.....what is the use of grouping white Americans who have been living in the US for many generations with recent Indian and Middle Eastern immigrants? What is the census attempting to prove? It's not like society sees all these groups as Caucasian, really. There was a time when the Irish and Southern Europeans like Italians weren't even considered white in the US
In Europe it's the same, people are identified by culture and not by race. These 3 groupings really have no sociological meaning.....maybe they're useful for studying genetics if anything
