Just did some research and I stand corrected, a Universal press release said that Breakaway sold 15 million WW but they were wrong. It did, however, sell around 12.5 million. Which is still huge.

I wish she was, but she wasn't. People like Christina, Adele, Mariah etc were all heavily marketed as big vocalists, and while Kelly is up there with them, that wasn't really how she was marketed during Breakaway. They were trying to move her past the "American Idol" image and more as a legitimate Pop star. Her material, while still big vocally, didn't show the full extent of what she was capable of, and it seems like most people didn't know just how good she was (around the time of Idol, people who watched did, but the first season of Idol didn't have the ratings it had years later....people who didn't watch didn't know). She was seen more as a Pop star at the time, but with an amazing voice.

BOY definitely was a huge song for her, it was what really broke her out WW and gave her credibility as a songwriter. It did give her credibility as a vocalist, but I don't think it really shows the extent of what she's capable of.
