Daniel Craig allegedly blocked multi-million dollar offers from Sony and Samsung to feature their smartphones in latest blockbuster SPECTRE, after he and director Sam Mendes deemed the handsets not good enough for 007.
"BEYOND the $$ factor, there is, as you may know, a CREATIVE factor whereby Sam and Daniel don't like the Sony phone for the film (the thinking, subjectively/objectively is that James Bond only uses the 'best,' and in their minds, the Sony phone is not the 'best')," [sic] Andrew Gumpert, president of worldwide business affairs and operations for Columbia Pictures, wrote in an email at the time, reported by Business Insider.
...In recent months, Android users have been exposed to potential software security vulnerabilities including Stagefright and Heartbleed.
Craig and Mendes' creative differences with Androids didn't ultimately matter, however, since Bond does in fact use an Android phone in Spectre—specifically, Sony's Xperia Z5. But this deal wasn't met without protests from the lead actor either. Sony initially offered Craig $5 million to use the device in the film, but he refused, so Sony upped its offer to $18 million.
