News: Gay Men attacked at gunpoint in Dallas

Two more gay men were attacked and robbed at gunpoint in the Oak Lawn section of Dallas early Monday morning, bringing the total number of attacks in the area to 11 since September.

As we reported previously, Dallas police are scratching their heads over the string of violent assaults that left one man beaten by a baseball bat and another severely stabbed last month. The suspects have mostly targeted gay men walking to and from bars and clubs in the area because the dismal overhead lighting and lack of police presence in the area make them easy targets. According to victims of Monday’s separate attacks, the suspects threatened to kill them both.

According to Sean Gonzalez, he had no time to react when two of the suspects approached him in an alley around 1am Monday morning with a gun, demanding his money and his phone.

“The next thing I know the other guys is taking things out of my pockets,” Gonzalez told Fox 4. “My eyes are closed. I have no clue what’s going to happen next…the guy takes everything out of my pockets. I get knocked on the ground and they just start kicking me.”

Gonzalez claims the men ran away after kicking him, but Michael Redman, a second and separate victim that morning, says a man threatened to kill him during an attack about an hour later.

“When I turned back around, he was right up against my face, literally just right there,” said Redman, who was leaving a bar on Hudnall Street to walk to his car. “He held me up against my door and kept demanding my car keys.”

The man, who used gay slurs throughout the assault and robbery, was interrupted by Redman’s friends, who were walking closely behind. The group of friends claim they saw a female assailant in tow.

During one of the attacks, a Gay man subsequently died from brutal beatings from a bat, fighting for his life after being turned into a vegetative state.

I live in Dallas and being gay is the pits here.

Listen to me, DO NOT go out alone at night in you are in the Oaklawn area, stay nearby the urban places and The Cathedral of Hope should also be a safeheaven if you are looking to stay until Sunday or Monday.

Stay away from Throckmortin St, because that's were all the anti-gay bigots are at.

Dallas observes Central Time Zone and the Standard time so it would be sundown at 6PM.

I used to live a few minutes from Oak Lawn. It's sad but I'm not surprised either. Don't get me wrong things have definitely been better in the last five years for us but yeah.
