Today Parliament just voted and the majority said yes 52-43, but in Northern Ireland a "petition of concern" which requires a majority of both nationalists and unionists to say Yes worked as a veto against gay marriage because most unionists were opposed. So in the end the vote became merely symbolic
Northern Ireland remains the only part of the United Kingdom without gay marriage
