Heartbreaker, Musicbox sold like 174k in it's first week back in '93 and it went diamond. Obsessed is almost top ten on itunes and IWTKWLI is top 40 too.

it's 2009. you must have 1st week big, or at least 3 major hits after release, without any break of time, 100% promo.. really. Gaga is Lucky to sell that much after failing to sell at her first week, i dont think Mariah is going to be as lucky, she needs a bangers, i like her album. but this Old School R&B will never be 1 on US 2009.. this is good, but not mainstream, which is good, but sadly US thinks different.

uh uh, opening numbers are not accurate measurements to how good the quality of an album is 
and this is Mariah's sound...a new sound that she cant do or fit in her standard will just ruin her...this album is what she does best...

AFI have the best album out of anybody in that top ten; followed by Alice in Chains. Too bad people won't even bother downloading Crash Love. I'm not sure what's going on.

She isnt even Gold yet? Why is everyone making it seem like this album sold SO MUCH... i mean it did sell good for a new artist but damn, i was almost positive it was GOLD by now.

456k is pretty good with bare promo and two hit singles. There wasn't anything really pushing the album besides the singles. You're speaking as if people were saying it was Top 5 all the time when truly we've always noticed it's earlier consistency. It's better than being out of the charts after a month with tons of promo and tours, etc. etc....

They aren't THAT disappointing. They are selling albums and singles at the same time. Taylor also had 6 weeks of Christmas sales. Guarantee once "MMH" truly becomes a hit and its November/December their sales will spike.

WRONG!
The Hanna Montana Movie Soundrack sold 130K in its first week and sold over 1.4 million. Its only radio hit was "The Climb".
MOAIA can still outsell E=MC^2 if the right singles are released. She also has holiday sales and an upcoming movie to benefit from this time.

In 2009, if you want a big sales, you must already made a fanbase before 2006, an actor/actress in a famous TV/movie show/, be a contestant in a reality show,win an award, perform at a famous award show have 2+ hits,have a scandal and big promos. It's now rare to a new artist to have a platinum album. If you have 200k+ opening this year you are lucky,

For an established artist coming off a so-so era, less than 200k is alright. Had this been the opening week of E=MC^2 that would be a problem considering the success of TEOM but I didn't expect anymore than 200k from "Memoirs..." since none of her recent singles were big hits.
