I dressed up like a gay-sha (geisha) the other day and spoke extremely broken japanese at a party and the japanese student association kids just laughed and started asking me to entertain them by dancing and singing. It was then i realized that some geisha were prostitutes (they would sell their virginity to pay back their geisha pimp/house)

So remember kids, thoroughly research the culture youre dressing up as because you could either be a female entertainer or a edo period thot depending on the context

Some people push it too far, but some costumes are simply offensive.
