It does. That's been my main problem with the song. The production is incredible and beautiful but the lyrics are so bland and not quite as clever as her previous singles.
Nope. For some reason people think approaching song writing like complex poetry. When in reality it should be approached like the way Adele does, with smart catchy lyrics. At least, this is how mainstream pop should be approached.

RITD and even SLY had way more interesting and descriptive lyrics than Hello.
As a massive Adele fan, I was very disappointed with the song. The idea behind it is wonderful and pretty out of the box from most ballads, and the structure of the song mimicking a phone conversation is genius - but some lines, especially most of the second verse fall flat. The chorus isn't as melodically interesting as some of her best-loved works. That being said, it's still a solid offering and she sounds great. Well-produced track too.
Btw; the California dreaming line is brilliant. California dreaming is a popular folk song from the 1960s that she slyly name checks in the song while fitting it into the overall narrative.
California? Srsly ? the writer could've had used a thousand words other than that.

YES! That's why I was so underwhelmed by the song, there are several cringe-worthy lines.
This is the worst line: "They say that time's supposed to heal ya..." ok I'm sure something clever is coming... "...But I ain't done much healing" WHAT? Is that all she could come up with?
