In China, Vietnam (I'm not so sure about Korea, Japan) after parents death, the son will take care of the family's altar and have to make obit every year. That **** is a very big deal and girl can't do that because she will be "belong" to husband family so it's important to have male child. It's the main reason of favoring boys over girls. I wish we could get rid of that culture.

Yeah. The problem is the 4-2-1 phenomena.
1 child will have
2 parents and
4 grandparents
...to care for. And when a woman marries, she must care for her husband's family. It's beyond messed up. There are 2 great documentaries about this but I can't remember their names. One was about the dating scene in China. There are like 35 million more men than women there. This means men have to go way above and beyond to find a woman and leads to higher suicide rates from the stress.
The other was something like "China's Missing Women" about how many infant girls don't make it home from being born. I stopped watching when they were talking about how common saline abortions are. If they're lucky enough to be raised by their parents and cared for, then it goes to the above problem of missing women in the dating scene.
People don't realize how much the policy jacked everything up. It's fascinating and sad.
