On October 29, 2013, Kelly Clarkson's first Christmas album was released. It debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 with 73,000 sold in the first week (with no promo whatsoever yet), and remained in the Top 10 for the rest of the year....sales really started gaining traction when it got closer to Thanksgiving, and it even had several weeks selling over 100,000 copies and charting above some new Pop releases.....it was certified Platinum by the end of the year.
It became the best selling Christmas album of 2013, and the lead single "Underneath the Tree" an International Top 40 Christmas hit song, as well as radio's most played new holiday song of 2013. This also made her the first female artist to have a year's #1 Christmas album of the Soundscan era.
The album showed Kelly's versatility as a singer and an artist as she explored different genres....there's some 50's wall-of-sound esque songs, some Country, some Jazz, some Soul, some Pop, some retro ballads, and more. Kelly wrote 5 original Christmas songs for the album that all sound like classics. The album was critically acclaimed
Kelly promoted it pretty heavily when it got into early December (despite being pregnant and being at the worst of her morning sickness) and even had her own Christmas special on NBC.
I think this is one of Kelly's best works, and her voice is showcased on it better than it is on almost any of her other albums.
It's almost time to start playing Christmas music again, so let's take a moment to praise this masterpiece

I haven't listened to it yet, but I remember when everyone was talking about it and she was doing so well! A very memorable era for her and fans I'm sure. I think I should listen to it this season

Filler era
Not at all She seemed more passionate about this than she has about her past few regular albums, and RCA rolled out a big promo budget for her. It was a great era.

Iconic, this really could be the next Merry Christmas. She needs to promote it more bc it didn't really do anything last year
Yeah she didn't really promote it at all last year She probably won't this year either since she's been sick and pregnant. But the beauty of it is that it can be promoted every year

Despite zero promo last year (excluding the release of Wrapped In Red the song as a single), it sold almost 100k last year. Don't look at the sales on her wikipage, they're wrong. The album sold 760k in 2013 and in 2014 the numbers got to 833k and that's without the two last weeks of 2014 from which we didn't get any info about sales.
Wow. Can't wait for October to be over so I can start spinning the album again. Underneath the Tree had so much more potential.
It just needs one big promo heavy Christmas and the song can be a pretty big staple in the future.
