Paramore, the Fueled by Ramen punk-rock group whose 360-deal with WMG through Atlantic Records has proven a successful new model, look headed for a #1 debut on next week’s HITS Album sales chart, based on one-day sales reports from those retailers who still take our calls.
Brand New Eyes, the third studio album from the band, fronted by lead vocalist Hayley Williams, takes an early lead in the race with a one-day sales total that projects to 180-190k for the week. That gives them the edge over Island/IDJ diva Mariah Carey’s Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel, which is now on target for 160-170k. With a question as to how front-loaded those sales for Paramore are, Carey could close the edge if she has a brisk weekend.
Those two are among the five top debuts next week, all registering in six-figures, including Columbia legend Barbra Streisand’s Love is the Answer (150-160k), Hollywood rockers Breaking Benjamin (140-150k) and Virgin/EMI’s retooled grunge gods Alice in Chains (130-140k).
Columbia Nashville country darling Miranda Lambert’s Revolution heads the other newcomers, with a total approaching 65-75k.
WB Material Gal Madonna’s Celebration greatest hits album is in the 60-70k range, as is Interscope goth-punks AFI’s Crash Love.
Disney’s latest Hollywood Records crossover cable TV teen star Selena Gomez & The Scene is looking at first-week sales of 50-60k.
Rock on Roll Hall of Famers Lynyrd Skynyrd’s latest, God and Guns, on Roadrunner’s Loud and Proud label, looks for an opening week total of 30-40k, same as Williams Street virtual death metal group Dethklok, from Adult Swim’s animated Metalocalypse series.
American/Columbia Rick Rubin-produced roots rockers Avett Brothers round out the debuts with 25-30k for their major label bow, I and Love and You.
The market was down 4% vs. last week, down 7% vs. same week last year and still down 14% year to date.
You may now return to stocking your underground fallout shelter with canned goods and other imperishable items.

I love BNE, but I doubt Paramore will debut at #1.
I think it'll be:
1. Mariah
2. Paramore
3. Madonna
And Selena will be in the top 5.

Wait till you see what happens if by some reason Paramore wins. I always root for the underdog and this time the underdog actually has a chance to beat one of the top selling artists of all time. Everyone will never hear the end of it from me so people better pray it don't happen. Oh on another note, there is no way Madonna even gets #3 here in the US. Lets face it, while the rest of the world loves Madonna, the US got tired of her.

Sorry, but Madonna and Selena won't be top 5.
You have Breaking Benjamin, Miranda Lamber, Barbra Streisand, and Alice in Chains will block those two from it.

Paramore (180k-190k)
Mariah (160k-170k)
Barbara Streisand (150k-160k)
Breaking Benjamin (140k-150k)
Alice In Chains (130k-140k)
Miranda Lambert (65k-75k)
AFI (60k-70k)
Madonna (60k-70k)
Selena Gomez & The Scene (50k-60k)
Lynard Skynard (30k-40k)
Avett Brothers (25k-30k)
...Selena has NO chance at Top 5, nor Madonna. But, Mariah can push past 200k+ with all her appearances this week. Circus was set for 400k before Britney's GMA appearance then it started to jump until 505k. Hopefully Mariah can do the same with even more promotion.
Glad the #s are getting lower as far as decreases. The 14% down has also been noted for a while.

Paramore v. Carey for #1. I do believe Carey netted over 400 K copies in 2008, so I think it should be all about her at number 1.
Dark horse: Streisand

You, sir are correct. It should be all about Carey, BUT it isn't. The fact this competition is even close should show you something.

Mariah Carey, Paramore, Barbra Streisand In Race For No. 1
September 30, 2009 - Retail
By Keith Caulfield, L.A.
Next week's Billboard 200 albums chart is going to be flush with new releases, including a race for No. 1 between Mariah Carey's new "Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel" and Paramore's third album "Brand New Eyes." Based on early prognostications from industry sources, each album could sell between 160,000 to 170,000 in their first week.
For Paramore, the Fueled By Ramen/Atlantic act will easily charge in with their best sales week and highest charting album ever. The band's sophomore set, "Riot!," peaked at No. 15 in 2007.
As for Carey, if her Island effort hits No. 1, it will give the diva her seventh chart-topper and would tie her with Madonna for the second-most No. 1s on the Billboard 200 among women. Only Barbra Streisand, with eight No. 1s, has more.
Speaking of Streisand, the legendary Columbia singer's new "Love Is The Answer" is on course to start with around 150,000. It should easily enter the top 10 next week, marking the icon's 30th top 10 set.
Also aiming to start near 150,000 is Breaking Benjamin's new "Dear Agony." The effort is the Hollywood Records band's first release since 2006's "Phobia" debuted and peaked at No. 2 with 125,000.
Alice in Chains is also going to make a splash next week, as its "Black Gives Way to Blue" could move between 110,000 to 120,000. It's the band's first effort with new vocalist William DuVall, who picked up the mic in 2006, replacing the band's late frontman Layne Staley.
Other albums in the hunt for handsome debuts next week include Miranda Lambert's "Revolution," AFI's "Crash Love," Madonna's greatest hits set "Celebration," Selena Gomez & the Scene's "Kiss & Tell" and Lynyrd Skynyrd's "God & Guns."
Nielsen SoundScan's sales tracking week, as reflected in Billboard's sales charts, runs from Monday through Sunday of each week. Next week's album charts will be revealed on Wednesday, Oct. 7 and will reflect data through the week ending Sunday, Oct. 4.

Acording to this new article, each album (Mariah & Paramore) could sell between 160,000 to 170,000. So it's gonna be closer that we thought.

What the **** is wrong with the world. Is Mariah going to make Discipline look like a hit or what.
I think Paramore deserve their success but Mariah should be at least in the 200K range.
