News: Florida man fatally shot by cop 3 times

This just happened in my area a few weeks ago. His name was Corey Jones and he was a drummer who was on his way home from a show early in the morning when his car broke down on Interstate 95 in Palm Beach Gardens. A cop pulled up in an unmarked vehicle, alarming the victim. Corey was shot to death after pulling out his own weapon.

The family maintains that Jones didn't know that 38-year-old Officer Nouman Raja, who was not in uniform and was driving an unmarked van while investigating burglaries in the area, was on-duty at the time. They say Jones acted to protect himself.

"He doesn't know if he's about to be mugged, if he's about to be killed," Crump said. "Imagine yourself on the side of the road at 3 in the morning, abandoned, the sense of concern you would have 3 in the morning, waiting for the tow truck and an unmarked van rolls up on you."

"We believe Corey went to his grave not knowing whether this was a real cop or not," he added.

Jones, a graduate of the University of Akron with degrees in business administration and music, was so passionate about drumming that he organized monthly jam sessions where dozens of musicians from all over South Florida would come to the Bible Church of God and play gospel music — and sometimes a little R&B — well into the night. He was a quiet, laid back man who also enjoyed fishing, relatives said.

Family said Jones carried a gun for protection because he hauled expensive drumming equipment during his gigs and would be paid in cash. Jones had both a gun permit and a concealed weapons permit, according to Crump..

Edit: Tragic though, and he had all the gun licenses too :/ Cop should've flashed his lights.

I dont think the cop had lights on the vehicle he was driving. It was an unmarked van and he was not in uniform, the officer was investigating home invasions in the area, so that is why he wasnt in usual vehicle and uniform.

The victim thought that he was just anybody, and it being 3 am and him being broken down he had every right to be alarmed. South Florida has some very shady areas and shady people, you have to always be on guard.

a plainclothes officer in an unmarked vehicle who didn't identify himself as law enforcement by either flashing his lights or showing his badge murders a man on the side of the road waiting for a tow truck at 3am... and they're probably gonna let him get away with it

What a sad situation, the guy was for sure scared and fired for his life and the cop retaliated back in defense. But the cop shouldn't have been incognito at 3am...
